Steve Jobs on death

So let’s get started.

          Steve Jobs admire that the truth is that ‘Death is very likely the best invention of the whole life’ which he sees and in today’s blog we are going to know Steve Jobs on death in full details.

          Firstly Apple founder Steve Jobs died in the year 2011, after 6 years of a Stanford university’s speech where he speak about his death.


          Addressing in Stanford University in the year 2005, he reflected on his own mortality as urging his audience after receiving surgery for pancreatic cancer.

He addressed his followers or fans and said that ‘Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.’

          He tells that his whole life and life learning in total 3 parts. 1st is connecting dots 2nd is about firing off from his own Apple company. And in the last he shares his story of death.

So let’s get started to the topic of Steve jobs on death.

          So basically we are not going to the 1st or the 2nd part of the story, we are direct going to the 3rd and last part of the story i.e. Death.
In the speech he says this..

“My third story is about death. When I was 17 years old, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

          In this paragraph he explains a quote which was about death and he also adds that one day it will be most certain. From this line we can say that he was self aware about Death. But then the twist comes when he were use to say it every morning by looking to the mirror and saying to itself. Then he also adds that when the above questions answer is No by itself, he really needs to be change something. In the simple words he don’t need anyone to suggest him to do so until inner he. That was his expectations from self which he wants to achieve.

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

          Then in the next paragraph he gives his special sauce to encounter the fear which it helps him to make big decision and choices in his life he added next. Then he also says that there is not any reason to not follow your heart and intuition.

“About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor in my pancreas. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor’s code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you’d have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.”

           In the next paragraph Steve Jobs shares his Pancreatic Tumor. Here they explain his pancreatic cancer story in detail. And here he came to know that he should expect to live no longer than 3 to 6 months.

“I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumour. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I’m fine now. This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I get for a few more decades.”

          Here they explains whole story of his Tumor surgery. After a surgery he become well he was alive.

“Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept: No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.”

          Here in the second last paragraph Steve Jobs treat Death as a purely intellectual concept. Where they explains how everyone wants heaven without dying. And the harsh truth he shares that no one has ever escaped the death. Then he said that Death is as it should be cause it is the single best invention of life. He called Death life’s change agent.

          In the next two lines he explains nature’s law that now the new is you but someday not too long from now. You will or anyone will be going to be old and in the last will be cleared away.

“Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And the most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.”

                                In the last, he says sorry for such dramatic speech and said it seems dramatic but it is harsh truth of life. Then he encourage his followers to not to trapped by dogma of other people but live your life on your own terms.  Then he also encourages to follow your own heart to search what you truly want to become and search your inner voice. Then he also adds that following heart can somehow already know what you truly want.

                   Then at the end of his speech he said that beneath it were the words.
