‘SUPER SINDHU!’ : PV Sindhu World Champion


On Saturday 31st July 2021, PV Sindhu’s dreamt of getting gold in Olympic had ended when she lost to Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying. However, she got another opportunity to make 2 medals in two Games by winning a bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020. So in today’s blog, we are going to how PV Sindhu World Champion achieved this great achievement.

The Story

On 31st July 2021, PV Sindhu’s dream of getting gold in the Olympic had ended when she lost Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying. But as she had another opportunity to make it 2 medals, she grabs the opportunity and made it to Bronze by taking 2nd medal home from Tokyo Olympics 2020.

PV Sindhu scripted history and become the first Indian woman to win two individual medals by clinching Bronze Medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

This is Sindhu’s second consecutive Olympic medal, after claiming silver at the Rio Olympics 2016. Unluckily she had lost in the final to Carolina Marin five years back.


Hereon PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win 2 Olympic medals consecutively so far.

The 26-year-old Sindhu is now the Indian female athlete to win two individual Olympic medals consecutively after Sushil Kumar. Wrestler Sushil Kumar also has 2 medals from The Beijing Olympics 2008 and The London Olympics 2012 by taking bronze and silver respectively to home.

About the Match

PV Sindhu clinches women’s singles bronze. Ace Shuttler PV Sindhu took the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, with a straight games victory. She took over China’s He Bingjao in the women’s singles badminton match.

In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Sindhu ruined her Chinese opponent with brilliant smashes, at 21-13 taking her first game at ease. She defeated China’s He Bing Jiao on 21-13,21-15 in 53 minutes match to clinch her Bronze Medal.

“I want to thank the Government of India, Sports Authority of India and I am grateful to them for giving her the encouragement. I am happy that she has won a medal for the country. Playing the bronze medal match can be painful, yesterday I motivated her a lot, thank God, with the blessings of everyone, she has brought a medal. I am happy that she is the first Indian woman to win two consecutive medals at the Olympics. She has brought name and fame to the country,”

“Yesterday, I told her that you have given your best, just think you are giving me a gift and play on the court. She had tears in her eyes, good that she has recovered and come back. Overall, she was very aggressive on the court, I just told her to keep attacking,”.

Her father PV Ramana expressed happiness with the win, saying he was impressed with his daughter’s offensive games.
