How Reliance Become the largest oxygen producer in India?

The story

Now India is in the midst of an unprecedented time with the second wave of Covid-19 in the country. India is witnessing a spike of Covid patients higher than any other. Oxygen Plant in Jamnagar

At the RIL refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in the Jamnagar District of Gujrat, RIL now produces over 1,000 MT of medical-grade liquid oxygen per day. This production is over 11% of India’s total production of Oxygen. This oxygen is now meeting the needs of nearly every 1 patient in 10 In India.

As per Nita Ambani, the refinery plant at Jamnagar has repurposed overnight. For producing medical-grade liquid oxygen to help India in the battle with Covid.


RIL said that produced oxygen will be provided free-of-cost to several state governments. Free of cost for getting immediate relief over one lakh patients on a daily basis.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, Reliance has supplied over 55,000 MT of medical-grade liquid oxygen across the country.

Their pure intention has helped them to become the largest oxygen producer in India. They are now supplying medical-grade liquid oxygen from a single location i.e., from Jamnagar, Gujarat.

“For me and for all of us at Reliance, nothing is more significant than saving every life as India battles against a new wave of the Covid-19 virus,”

Said Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of RIL.

“In April 2021, Reliance supplied over 15,000 MT of medical-grade liquid oxygen free of cost, serving near 15 lakh patients,” the statement read.

The sentence said by Mukesh Ambani because typically, RIL is not a manufacturer of medical-grade liquid oxygen in India.

“There is an instant need to maximize India’s production and carrying capacities for medical grade oxygen. I am proud of our engineers at Jamnagar who have worked determinedly, with a great sense of patriotic urgency, to meet this new challenge,”

Mukesh Ambani said.

“I am truly humbled by the willpower and determination shown by the bright, young members of the Reliance folks who have once again risen to the occasion and delivered when the country needs it the most in unparalleled times.”

Under the personal supervision of Mukesh Ambani, Reliance has adopted a two-branched approach for increasing the availability of oxygen.

Nita Ambani, Founder-Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, said:

“Our country is going through an exceptional crisis. We at Reliance Foundation will carry on doing everything we can to help. Every life is precious.”
