About Chenab Arch Bridge
The Chenab Bridge is an Indian railway bridge made with steel and concrete. Chenab arch Bridge is constructed between Bakkal and Kauri in the district of Jammu and Kashmir, India.
On April 5, the Indian Railways created history by completing the bridge on the Chenab River. The bridge builds at a height of 359 meters above the river, making it the world’s highest rail bridge.
The Arch Bridge is the closure of the iconic Chenab Bridge, which is a chunk of the USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project). The iconic Chenab Arch Bridge will connect the Kashmir valley with our entire nation.
The railway’s ministry said that the Chenab Arch Bridge can withstand high wind speed up to 266 km/hour. The Bridge also can bear earthquake forces with the highest intensity zone-V in India.
Interestingly, the Arch Bridge was one of the most difficult parts of the bridge over Chenab and its completion is a major leap towards the completion of the 111 km-long winding stretches from Katra to Banihal, the ministry said in a statement.
In addition, the ministry has also said that the bridge will continue operating at a limited speed of 30 km per hour even after the removal of one pier/trestle.
The iconic Chenab Bridge is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link (USBRL) project and the completion of the steel arch was one of the most difficult parts of the bridge over Chenab.
The bridge, which is 35m tall, is higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The bridge will be complete within a year, officials said.

The 1.3 km bridge, with the world’s highest railway bridge, is a leading step towards seamless railway connectivity. The connection between the Kashmir valley to the entire nation. The arch bridge is constructed at a cost of Rs 1,486 crore as part of the USBRL project.
