Guinness world records by India for fastest Road Construction


The story

India’s Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on 2nd April 2021 said that “India holds the Guinness world record for the fastest road construction”. He also said that “We made 3 Guinness world records in the month of March. India now also holds the Guinness world record for the fastest road construction ever in the history”. In this blog, we are going to check this Guinness world records by India for the fastest Road Construction.

The Records

India made it to Guinness World Records by building a 2.5 km 4-lane concrete highway road within 24 hours.

India also made Guinness World Records by building 1-lane 25-km from Solapur-Bijapur road within 24 hours.

In February, Patel Infrastructure Limited, a contractor of NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) created a world record by laying the highest quantity of concrete on a 4-lane highway in 24 hours. The record was set for laying of Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) for a 4-lane highway of 2,580 meters in length within 24 hours.


The world record recorded from 8 am of 1 February 2021 to 8 am in next morning.  The workers finished their job, totalling the construction of 2,580 meters of 4 lanes. The construction is approximately 10.32 lane kilometres with a width of 18.75 meters. The area is as much a 48,711 square meters of concrete. The concrete was laid for the expressway within 24 hours. The concrete was laid with the highest quantity in 24 hours with 14,613 cubic meters. The above project was a part of the Greenfield Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai 8-lane Expressway.

Another NHAI contractor IJM India completed single-lane stretch of 25.54 km being developed between Solapur-Vijapur (National Highway 52) in the least 18 hours. IJM India is a Hyderabad-based construction company that carried out further construction work. There are about 500 contractual workers who worked hard on the project.

Total road construction

The MoRTH (Ministry Of Road Transport And Highways) of India has constructed a total of 13,394 km of highway in 2020-21. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also said that “The speed of highways construction in the country has reached a record of 37 km/day in the year 2020-21.

“India has achieved great progress in building national highways across the country. These achievements are extraordinary and have not similar in any other country on the planet”. Union Minister said.

Nitin Gadkari said that the government will going to build infrastructure worth Rs 1,11 lakh crore in the next 5 years. Union Minister added that the politics of the 21st century is that of progress Prime Minister Narendra Modi has determined to make a real ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. PM Modi has given us a mission to make Atmanirbhar Bharat.

PM Modi also gave us the dream of having a $5 trillion worth economy of India in the near future. Union Minister also called that “We have to build an infrastructure of worth Rs 1,11 lakh crore in next 5 years”. Nitin Gadkari also showed his share and responsibility for the road sector in the Indian Economy.

The length of National Highways has gone up by 50% from 91,287 km as of April 2014 to 1,37,625 km as of March 20, 2021, it said. Nitin Gadkari praise and thanks to the teamwork of officials and all by saying that the achievement would not have been possible without dedication, teamwork and hardwork.
